In 2011 the Wahta Mohaks, Chief and Counicl completed a new Strategic Plan to guide the community and the organization over the next 5 years, with the goal of reviewing and updating the plan annually. The plan realistically focused on the achievable goals in the following areas
• Economic Development
• Community/ Infrastructure Development
• Governance and Capacity Development
Along with a new Strategic Plan a new community vision was created that will also help guide future decisions pertaining to the Wahta Mohwaks. The community vision is as follows “WAHTA MOHAWKS are of One Mind in preserving our inherent and treaty rights to sustain future generations by respecting the Creator, Iethinistenha Ohwen:tsia (Mother Earth), oneself, others and our culture.”

New Fitness Program Coming to Wahta!
The Wahta Mohawks would like to announce that we have received $22,000 from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport under the Healthy Communities Fung to launch a community based fitness program.
The program will be available to community members who wish to improve their level of physical fitness as well as their nutrition. A personal trainer will ne hired part time and will meet with program participants once a week to assist them in meeting their fitness goals.
The funding will also allow the band to purchase new fitness equipment for the gym at the Community Resource Centre.
This Program will be launching in the fall, updates will be coming shortly.

SUMMER COMPANY – 2012
Thinking of starting your business or need help growing it? Contact us! Want to start a summer business? Are you between the ages of 15 and 29 years old? Check out Summer Company. A program offered by the Provincial Government, and you may qualify to receive funding up to $3,000.00.

Applications are being accepted for training for the upcomming year. If you are out of school, unemployed or underemployed and need assistance in getting back into the workforce then please give me a call. Other areas where assistance may be provided are: Targeted Wage Subsidy, Self Employment Assistance, Mobility Assistance and Youth Work Experience.
SUMMER STUDENT EMPLOYMENT
We are almost at that point of time where students are starting to think about summer employment. The Employment office has been busy submitting proposals to acquire funding from Kagita Mikam and INAC. In the next couple of months please keep an eye on the newsletter of when resumes will be accepted for summer student employment with Wahta Mohawks. Criteria for applying for summer employment is as follows: student must be 15-30 years of age and a full time student in 2011/2012 and returning to school as a full time student in the fall.
STUDENT PROGRAM
At this present time I am putting together two workshops for students between the ages of 14 -18 years to partake in two evenings of working on skills to help them get summer jobs. The date of the first workshop is April 24th. We (Carol and I) will be taking the students out for dinner and then travelling to Bracebridge to Northern Lights Employment Centre. If you are interested in attending then please give me or Carol a call.
ADULT TRAINING
I have submitted proposals for 10 young adults (ages 18 and up) to obtain their Smart Serve certificate. If you are interested in taking this training, please give me a call.
I have also submitted a proposal for 6 adults (ages 18 and up) to obtain their Bartending One course. If you are interested in taking this course, please give me a call. Please keep in mind that the training is done through the day Monday thru Wednesday. You must have obtained a Smart Serve certificate before furthering your training.
THE ONTARIO TRILLIUM BENEFIT
Starting in July 2012, payments of the Ontario Sales Tax Credit, the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit and the Northern Ontario Energy Credit will be combined and delivered to you monthly as the Ontario Trillium Benefit. Even if you don’t have income to report or haven’t filed for a few years, filing a tax return is the smart thing to do. Ontarion has many credits and benefits, but you need to file your tax return to get them. Make sure that the boxes are checked off for the above mentioned when having your taxes done. For more information about tax filing and direct deposit, visit the CRA at www.cra.gc.ca or call 1-800-337-7222.
CANADA PENSION PLAN
The Canada Pension Plan application forms have been updated to reflect Bill C-51 legislative changes which have come into effect January 2012. The changes being made to the CPP are:
- your monthly CPP retirement pension amount will increase by a largr percentage if you take it after 65
- your monthly CPP retirement pension amount will decrease by a larger percentage if you take it before age 65
- if you are under 65 and you work while receiving your CPP retirement pension, you and your employer will have to make CPP contributions. These contributions will increase your CPP retirement benefits
- the number of years of low or zero earnings that are automatically dropped from the calculation of your CPP pension will increase
- you will be able to begin receiving your CPP retirement pension without any work interruption

CASUAL/ON CALL RECEPTIONIST

Wahta Mohawks is hiring a casual receptionist that will be availablw on a “on call” basis. Required work days and hours are Monday through Thursday 8-4:30 and Fridays 8-2.
Duties include but not limited to:
- open and distribute incomming regular and electronic mail and other material and co-ordinate the flow of information internally
- answer telephone and electronic enquiries and relay telephone calls and messages
- greet visitors, ascertain nature of business and direct visitors to employer or appropriate person
- prepare and key in correspondence using computers
- perform any other duties related to the position of receptionist as directed by the Senior Administrator
- be able to fax correspondence and photocopy as required.
